      Far too much spam

I have just moved to Sky Broadband from NTL, I own a domain name which I use for email forwarding for all my family (the domain name is my familyname.co.uk), for myself and my wife, the domain email is forwarded to our new Sky email addresses

This means I have had my email address for years with various ISPs. Having just moved to Sky I now receive around 70 spam emails a day where as with NTL I rarely received any, I'm assuming that NTL used to block all the spam from getting to my account.

Does Sky not have anything to filter the rubbish out?
is there something I have to turn on?

any help/advise would be greatly appreciated

btw, hello to everyone, this is my first post after lurking for a week or so

      Re: Far too much spam

to my knowledge, no Sky don't have anything. It'd be a cse of setting up your email client to filter everything not in your contact list to be directed to the junk email folder where you can selct those you want to be allowed through and those which are spam....

      Re: Far too much spam

I would just use new email address from start and have 3 email address one for personal use and e-commerce

So don't fill in too many form online and make sure you don't subscribe for information.

Actually they do but haven't fully implemented it. All mail is passed through a spam scoring system and anything that scores positively has a header added of "X-spam_score: n". You might also have noticed that the mail system has a folder marked junk. One must assume that the mail system has a facility for a user to set a spam score limit where anything above this is placed in the junk folder. Unfortunately this is the bit Sky haven't implemented.

One way around this would be to use a PC based application such as Mailwasher to read the inbox contents and look for the above header. This filter could then be used to mark the emails for deletion and do this without having to download them.

Alternatively you could open a Gmail account and use this to read the mail and run the Gmail spam filters.
