      Laptop connection keeps dropping

Im using my old laptop(pentium 3), Windows ME, for net use/msn.
Its connected directly to the router(std sky netgear one) by a Lan cable.
The cable is connected to the laptop through a 10/100 PCMCIA lan card.

When i start the laptop, the net works great(just as quick as my main pc), but after around 5/10minutes, pages slow down, then the connection just stops completely. I cant even log into the routers IP address( i just get page cannot be displayed)
But i CAN ping the routers IP address. So the lan cable to the router is fine?
At this time all my other pcs/wireless devices can access the router and everything(net, email, msn) works fine on them.

      Just the laptop connection dies.

If i reboot the laptop, the connection works great again for 5/10mins, when the exact same problem happens again.

      Anyone got any ideas?

Try turning off UPnP in the router -- solved my intermittent disconnections. Though this was on wireless, it will affect wired, in theory. May not solve your problem, but it's easy enough to do.

      Its already off,lol.

Its kind of like some form of firewall prevents the laptops LAN access after 5minutes(as i cant even access the Router pade). Altho it has no firewall installed.

I had a similar problem- see Line fades when working on wireless for the instructions that I put. This may not apply to as I am guessing you have a different make of wireless hardware. If your hardware is different, then look just look for the latest driver.

      Sorted it now.
I changed "Static IP" to "Automatically obtain IP address", and that seems to have fixed it for some reason.
