Are you going to the right site?

      Sky Broadband - Home

      for web stuff

      Sky.com - Home

      for TV things

Tips here on adding email etc.

      I was using wrong site.

Ok, and finally - why is it although I am getting 12000kbps + on speed tests that when I download a file (say Halo Trial from microsoft) I only get 400kb/s? Does the server cap off download speeds so high speed users dont use all the bandwidth?

KBs and Kbs are two different things, I forget which, it's nearly grub time and things wander when I'm hungry. Speed testers report one and downloads usually show the other. Actual download speeds vary according to which server you're pulling stuff from, how busy they are at that time, how many other users are accessing them, which way the wind is blowing and how many butterflies just broke wind in the Amazon etc, etc. Go look for a http download of a live Linux CD, they usually hit near enough a max throughput if you're lucky, I've seen well over 600 kbs, kBs, uh, Kbps, KBps....oh, I'll go stir the chilli. Have fun

Re: Max BB Package - only getting 2meg speeds

Yep - bits and bytes. Sky Max is an up to 16 megabits service (16000kbps) - all data communications are usually measured/described in bits.

kbps stands for thousand bits per second. kB/s stands for thousand bytes per second. There are 8 bits in a byte.

So if you get a result of 12520kbps with a speedtest that's the same as 1565kB/s.

If you're only getting 400kB/s (3200kbps) with your connection from a site then it just means the server you are downloading from is overloaded.
