Max connection and a terrible speed

Hi guys, bought Sky a few months back to replace my very expensive 10meg NTL (Virgin Media) connection. I thought i'd go with the up to 16meg (max) package knowing i'd probably get around half that, and I was fine with it.

But ever since I did get it, i've had terrible speeds, usually around 280kb/s downloading anything from anywhere. I can live with this just under 3Meg connection, but i'm paying 20 a month and also still paying 37 for my NTL because I just can't bare the terrible Sky speeds. I assume I have a 12 month contract so the only thing I can do is try to get my speed with Sky up and cancel NTL (I'd much rather stick with NTL however, i'd never have got Sky in hindsight).

      Can anyone help me?

Oh i'm sorry, thought this was the right section as I am unhappy with the service, lol.

      Well now I know

I have the line coming right out of the wall socket in to the router and a physical connection from the router to my laptop. Not sure exactly what you mean by test sockets, could you erlaborate please?

right, looks like internal wiring is gonna be playing a part in the issues ur having - have you tried your master/test socket? might be worth giving it a go if not as this may show up the problem...
