My migration log : Plusnet -> Sky

Well, I'm taking the plunge from Plusnet LLU (including Home Phone) to Sky Max.

I was getting confused with who said what & which party I'm waiting for, so I started a new blog on my site to track it all. If anyone's wondering what's involved with moving from one LLU provider to another at the moment and how long it takes, have a read.

Wow. What a useful blog. Thanks. I have a couple of questions.

First, you mention BT "reclaiming your line". This is a concept that I'm unfamiliar with. What do you do? Do you just dial 100 (is that still the operator number nowadays?) on your home phone and ask whoever answers that you want BT to "reclaim my line" and they're all trained to understand this or is it necessary to contact some special department?

My other question is, did you make any attempt to ask any Sky people whether Sky is participating in the trial LLU MAC code programme and hence be willing to take a Plusnet MAC code or did you figure that would be more pain than it was worth (on the assumption that Sky presumably aren't participating in this programme)?

My phone is currently unbundled to Plusnet, which means I no longer pay the bill to BT, but the phone is all included in my broadband contract with Plusnet. In order to move an ADSL connection to any other provider, the phone line has to be "recovered" by BT so the new ISP can take on the line. I don't remember which number I called BT on in the end, but it's on the BT homepage somewhere under the "Coming back to BT" section. It's a freefone number, but not one of the normal ones.

Edit : The details for recovering your LLU phone are all here (BT site)

I did ask the Sky sales person if they accepted LLU MAC codes and the answer was 'no' unfortunately. I'm assuming the whole thing would have been a lot easier if they did... Having said that, it seems that Plusnet have been somewhat reluctant to give LLU MACs out recently. Whether that's because they don't have enough support people or for some other reason, I wouldn't like to speculate.

Some Advice.. Its always advisable to inform your old ISP as soon as you have migrated that you have moved.
