      slower than a speeding snail

Hi been on sky bb mid package for several months now at first everything was good with them. Now though come tea time about 5pm onwards webpages stop loading and i can never get emails to come through to OE. It might all start working again after afew mins or it might go on for ages sometimes its just a case of rebooting my pc n router other times nothing helps no matter how many times i keep trying. I wouldnt mind if it was only every so often but its every night of the week now. What could be the prob and can i do anything about it ?

      TY Mick

P.S i am guessing its my exchange is getting busy at these times. What could i do about it though i never got sky bb for this and now i am in a contract with it.

You're describing classic symptoms of a falling noise margin. See the first sticky in my signature for background info and two suggested ways to solve this. However, rebooting the router would normally (temporarily) fix this so I'd also suggest you turn off UPnP in your router in case this is contributing to the problem.

If you use the reboot method to fix your noise margin at a higher figure then yes, you'll no doubt have to reboot several times in an evening until you've passed the peak noise time.

That's rather tedious though and were you to use Mognuts you only need to set it once at any time of day. Remember though that the noise margin changes through the day so if you use Mognuts at a quiet time you'll need to set it at a higher figure than if you use it during a noisy time i.e. if you have a noise margin swing of 4db then you need to set it at say 12db at the quietest time of day, whereas 8db would be right at a noisy time. All you are trying to do is set it at a figure so that it never drops below 7-8db.

      BTW are you connecting wirelessly?

OK. Just checking in case you were also getting interference from another wireless source.

Yes. With UPnP off you need to set portforwarding up manually.

Here's a guide I wrote for setting this up with utorrent some time back.
