      Device conflict

I recently changed isp providers and now I'm having a hardware conflict between the sky gear and my usb hub. It's driving me nuts as I cannot have the internet connection on at the same time as my hub which means all devices connected thru my hub are non-operational, including my wacom. If I connect them both, I get the conflict and I have to reboot to get the internet again. Any advice?

      Re: Device conflict

The Sky gear you refer to -- is it a wireless adapter ?

To second guess you to save time, there are alternative wireless adapters -- cardbus for laptop or PCI for desktop -- both usually work better than USB.

It may simply be the brand of USB wireless adapter you're trying -- Sky supply a Netgear WG111 and if it is causing problems get a refund and try one of the dozens of other brands of USB model.

      Re: Device conflict

I was supplied a netgear dg834gt router by sky and I have a Trust HU-5770 7 port usb. I am getting those yellow question marks for both of them in my device manager saying that neither have drivers installed...yet I used the sky cd...?!

Edit to add that it is connected by the supplied ethernet cable.

I think you must be mistaken. The router neither has to be installed (and can't be) or has have any PC drivers to conflict with.

      Re: Device conflict

Which devices exactly are showing the yellow markers in the device manager?

Did your previous ISP supply you with a USB modem or router?
If your system is trying to find a nonexistent USB device; it could lockup the USB stack.

      Re: Device conflict

It is under 'other devices' and they are the 'network controller' and the 'usb device' that have the problem. Properties of both tell me that neither have drivers installed and that the network controller is not using any resources as there is a problem with it. I did try to disable it but then I couldn't access the internet. I used to use a belkin that I bought to access the internet thru my previous isp provider.

      Re: Device conflict

If the drivers for the Belkin adapter are still installed, uninstall them.
Unless your computer has more than one Ethernet port there should be only one network driver; and that should be listed under Network adapters not other devices.
Try disabling the driver under other devices and restart the machine.

The only other thing I can think of is that Internet Explorer is still looking for the Belkin adapter. Open Internet Explorer; Tools/Internet Options/Connections. Make sure that no devices are listed in the box, if there are remove them. Never dial a connection should be selected and all the options should be greyed out. Click the LAN settings button make sure that Automatically detect settings is ticked.

      Re: Device conflict

Ok...I disabled the network controller and so far so good...I can still connect to the internet! I still have a question mark over my usb hub though, so I have contacted them direct. Thanx!
