Re: 30 minutes of no connection at night?

Ok, we maybe onto something here, just look at the speed increase I got!

One thing I noticed, there are 6 wires not connected inside the master socket (2 from each extension, one green/white one white/green and one white/orange), would that make a difference?

Here are the stats after 2 hours running directly connected to test socket:

Re: 30 minutes of no connection at night?

Looks alot better, your CRC errors are down and the noise margin is up. You only need pins 2 and 5 connected from the master to any extensions. disconnect any other wire's especially the orange and white one, ring wire which is not required for modern phones and known for causing broadband issues. Why BT use 6 or 8 core cable when you only need 2 I dont know.

ok, simplified the extension wiring, all connected back upstairs in the airing cupboard, and SNR has stayed higher....

Re: 30 minutes of no connection at night?

By plugging into the test socket, as advised by Koala, you have eliminated a significant part of the problem. This has enabled your router to negotiate a much better connection speed. It is possible that you may still get problems this evening when the noise builds up, but you can then set your target noise margin higher and, although this will involve some reduction in connection speed, you'll still be faster than you were originally (and much more stable). However first we'll wait for your stats after the evening period.

Re: 30 minutes of no connection at night?

Well I've been connected up to the extension for 1 1/2 hours now after snipping wires, and fingers crossed it's looking much better

      Thanks alot Koala!!

Arghh, sodding thing disconnected again, and dropped my speed right down

Re: 30 minutes of no connection at night?

Mmmm I am running out of idea's, I would plug back into the test socket again tomorrow night through the period of time that you have these issues. If problem persists you may have a line or exchange problem.

Re: 30 minutes of no connection at night?

Just had another thought, try using the mognuts utility that you used to get the stats to set your noise margin to 7 or 7.5bd, this may reduce your speed slightly from the 7mb or so you were synced at but may stop the disconnections. You can clear any changes by reseting the router.
