getting a nintendo wii to connect to the internet

more out of curiousity than anything else i'm trying to connect my nintendo wii to the internet wirelessly using my sky broadband

the wii will recognise the router but then not connect

do i need to do something to the router to enable the wii to connect to the internet or is it more likely to be settings on the wii?

      cheers

Re: getting a nintendo wii to connect to the internet

I've got the wireless access list enabled on mine (so only listed MAC Addresses can connect), i've told the Wii to search for wireless access, spotted the mac on my router page, added it to the "allowed" section, set the password on the Wii for the encrypted connection, and its worked fine.
I don't care if the glass is half full or half empty, i just want to know who's been drinking my pint!!!

Re: getting a nintendo wii to connect to the internet

I take it you've checked the usual things like security? Might be worth temporarily removing the security and seeing if that works, then adding it back on later.

Keep in mind that the Wii does like to pretend it can't connect, even when it's got a signal. Don't ask me why. In my experience, I just keep re-trying until it works. You might have to turn it off and on again, although I don't think it's ever come to that for me...

      Good luck!

I connected mine to the sky router no problems. Have you set the security on the Wii to WPA ? That is all I had to do. Then it found the wireless conection and I entered the network key.

Re: getting a nintendo wii to connect to the internet

Well i got mine to work today.

What i did was to set the router security to WEP (with 128 bit encryption). Then go through the internet set up on the wii and type in the long encryption key and it worked first time.Although the update it did took a while.

could someone give me peace of mind and assure me that changing my router security to WEP is not going to compromise anything.

      Thanks

feel free to contact me if u want some help.sometimes even i mange to bludgeon my way through problems

i just have no idea what to do. im not too good with computers either!

it seems to detect the router on WPA but then when i put the code in it wont connect. and then on WEP it says the code is wrong?

anyone fancy helping me out at all?

Re: getting a nintendo wii to connect to the internet

just make sure you enter the correct wep key (took me 2 goes)
dont forget its the number 0 not the letter o

also can you not generate a new wep key by entering a new passphrase.
