New activation today, 16Mb connection 2Mb speeds?

      Can anyone advise?

I have been connected to SKY Max today, show connection to the exchange as 16Mb but am unable to get over 2Mb downloads.

I was connected via Nildram and always maxed out my 8mb line with them and my stats are correct for the 16Mb connection to the exchange.

I have checked the router etc and all seems fine, do I need to wait for Sky to up my bandwidth?

      Cheers

Maybe if you post your detailed stats, someone may offer some advice. You can get your detailed stats by

      Lifted from a Koala5 post
Go to the utility web site: Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4
Click the “Get” detailed modem stats button and click “OK”.
Enter the router login user name and password.
At the next screen, click the back button on your browser.
      Click the “Download” netgear.cfg button.
What you do next depends on your operating system. On Windows XP, click the “Save” button to save the file to your hard disk. (If you click “Open”, you may find that the file association is one that doesn’t handle carriage returns the same way as the router, hence the reason for saying “Save”.)
Open the file in WordPad (not notepad).

id say you need to run the optimiser (see my sig).

Re: New activation today, 16Mb connection 2Mb speeds?

Although the optimiser may help a little there is no way it will pull my line towards the higher end of my sync. I am now struggling to get over 1mb.

As I mentioned this morning I was able to max out my 8Mb BT line, my line is still stable and my margins are capable of allwing upto 16mb but for some reason they are not getting near it. The only thing that has changed is Sky have moved me on to their LLU this afternoon.

Does the line take time to sort itself out like the BTmax 3 day training period?

There is no training period with LLU connections. But ADSL+2 is more susceptible to line faults than ADSLMax. You should post your detailed stats and let the experts have a look.

They already have and they are fine.

Its a classic wirless issue or optimiser issue.

I'm wireless, although I was wireless with BT max aswell with no probs. Will optimise and try again.

Re: New activation today, 16Mb connection 2Mb speeds?

okay, so run the optimiser and if that's no good connect to the router via wires (I know you were wireless with BT, but you are using a different router now).

If the optimiser doesn't work and wired is no better then we know what the problem isn;t. I know this may be a pain, but you need to discount things to pinpoint the problem.
