      Re: Help with speed

The problem with Connect compared to the Sky LLUs is that if your line speeds drops for any reason, for a short while, it takes 3 days of stable rate to get the speed back up. There is nothing Sky or BT can do about this, it is built into the technology used for ADSLMax. If the speed does not rise after the 3 days, then phone Sky, who should ask BT to raise your profile, which has probably been dropped due to the line problems.

You can check your speed with the BT checker by going HERE and enter your phone number. You will then be asked for your DSL login name, which is the one contained in your router, so have this ready. The checker is very heavily used and can take some time to open the pages, even then it often gives a fault, so you have to try again. It will show you profiled speed, which will give you an idea whether you have been dropped down. Pass this on to Sky when you phone them.

For any others who are interested, this only works with Connect, it will fail if you have Sky LLU connection.

Many thanks. I'll give this a whirl and keep my fingers crossed that it improves. It's consistently awful at the moment. Should I just leave the modem on for 3 days or reboot it now and again?

I would say reboot a few times especially if your SNR is falling low. Some say booting during this period causes the line to continually reset, but I don't think this is true. I am fairly sure the equipment knows the difference between a line dropping it's connection and a user actioned reboot.

      Re: Help with speed

Just tried the checker and after some errors I got to the username entry. I tried my SKYxxxxx name but it said this wasn't right. What should the name look like?

The Account Name entry in my router is blank.

      Re: Help with speed

You could also try using the Mognuts utility to set a higher noise margin (say 14dB) to avoid having to keep rebooting. However i've noticed something else in your line stats. Trellis is turned OFF. There have been some posts about this Trellis recently, but I don't know if anybody ever came to a firm conclusion about this.
      Useful Links
Download RouterStats (useful utility for continuously recording noise margin)

The user name is not visible in the Sky firmware version. To view it you must use the Mognuts or Mosseywell Utility. With the Mognuts, press 'Get' at the 'Username Password' box at the bottom. I think this shows by default, if not use the drop arrow to reveal it. Carry on in the same way you obtained the stats. You will obtain a name something like 0018xxxxxx40@skydsl.

You can also obtain the name from the bottom of the router. Simply add @skydsl after the MAC address.

      Re: Help with speed

I would say leave your router synced for 3 days and don't disconnect or resync. I had a similar problem, BT's systems look for a raise in sync during this period and will alter your profile accordingly.

In my case it actually took about 3days 12hours before I noticed a difference due to the bad dl speeds at peak times.

I'm on BT Broadband at the moment btw, I have just ordered Sky tho

      Re: Help with speed

Great news! My speed suddenly jumped up this evening to around 120kb/s. Fingers crossed that it returns to full speed soon, but this makes it a little faster to download my vodcasts!

      Re: Help with speed

Yeah my noise margin is back up to ~8.5db now, maybe it was on Sky's end.
