Active today but no Sky Broadband Router.. Can I use my NETGEAR RangeMax

      Hi,

Can some genius out there help.

Just changed from OneTel to SKY Broadband. My existing broadband was deactivated today and SKY broadband activated.

Called SKY and they said my SKY Broadband router wont be with me for 2 weeks as they didnt think it would deactivate/activate that quick...

I cant be without broadband for 2 weeks as I work from home..

Called SKY to see if I can use my existing NETGEAR RangeMax DG834PN and they said no...

I have my username and password in a letter from sky but cant seem to connect with it...

      Any ideas?

I know this wont help you but I have the same problem and sky have said No any other router wont work something about mac addresses But there must be a workaround.

Seems the router supplied by sky has the log on name and password hidden from the customer.

If I find out I will let you know

      Regards

You are right Paul. You can use your own router (although it is against Sky T&Cs to do so), but you need the Sky one to extract your details from it.

Sorry mate but until you get your router from sky you wont be able to connect with any router. This is because the sky router has your username and password embedded into it. To use another router you have to extract these details from the sky router which you obviously cant do until you get it. The un/ passsword you have been sent is for the sky portal. Sorry if this isnt what you wanted to hear.
ps- business use is excluded also.

username/password isnt for internet login - its for email access. the logins are locked in the router and until u have that there's no way of knowing it

and fibreoptic knows what my other point'll be
