      slow broadband, please help.

I have been a sky max user for about a week now, at first my connection was up at 2.5mb/s, but not its dropped right down to 600kb/s (according to speedtest.net - on which i have done tests morning/early afternoon/evening/late night). Also often my upload speeds are faster than my download speeds?

I live about 200 meters from the phone exchange, i was on virgin media before and was getting my real speed, but switched because it was cheaper and had higher speeds. I dont understand why it is running so slowly, i should be getting atleast 2-4mb/s at peak times, and faster in off peak times.

Any suggestions on what to do?

      here are my stats:

      Re: slow broadband, please help.

chances are its a wireless issue as the line stats are fine (although perhaps a bit more useage would help to bring any possible line issues to light)....

if ur using wireless, try moving the bb box around to see if it helps

      Re: slow broadband, please help.

could be that reception is a bit suspect - could do with moving the bb box around and see if you can get a better connection. I'd personally go ethernet over wireless anyday, if its convinient of course...

Your stats look good and you are synced with the exchange at over 15mb, have you turned uPNP off in the router menu? It's a known bug.

Its really worth trying a wired connection in these circs. Lets you isolate the issue much more easily. My honest view of the wireless capability of the Netgear is that its crap. Poor signal, poor coverage etc etc - much worse than previous (older) routers but as you're set up at the moment its difficult to be sure which bit to focus on.

      Good luck

      Re: slow broadband, please help.

If all of the above fails just run tcpoptimizer on your pc and it should speed up your connection as your connection is very good to your router.
