If you have reasonably new board there will be Vista LAN drivers for it. Have a look on the board manufacturers site. It is possible that it is running on generic drivers which may not do the job as well.

Vista is a great OS, but it needs a lot of coddling at first.

Can't help thinking that if I solve that, I might solve this, although I have already proven that Norton is not responsible for that.

I'll have a look for more drivers and try again, but I have seen similar problems scouting round on the net, with no solution!
Ok, I've had a stroke of luck. I think you were right with drivers. I had a look on my motherboard site and there were actually no vista drivers at all!

However, I found a model with exactly the same layout and chipset which did - installed the LAN driver and would you believe it? I've managed 2 restarts and each time the connection has been found. Something that definately did not work before.
