      Sky Broadband & Vista advice

      Hi all,
I am running a brand new pc with windows vista and have just connected sky broadband with the the netgear wireless router although i am connecting via the yellow ethernet cable.
My problem is that all the lights go on on the router but my pc has "limited" connectivity on protocol v4 & v6 and therefore cant get online.
I have turned off firewall but still no connection.
Has anyone had a similar problem, i think its some setting on vista but i cant be sure.
All advice would be greatly appreciated.

      Rob

Have you set the network to private? In vista if your network is set to public it wont allow you to connect to the net.

      That didnt work.
But i did test the router on my laptop running xp and it worked fine. So the problem is definetley with vista or the network card of my pc?
      The broadband router is ok.

Re: Sky Broadband & Vista advice

I have a Vista laptop and had loads of problems trying to get wireless connection working. Everything was fine with my XP laptop, managed to get vista laptop working by doing the following:

Go in router set up and click on Wireless Station Access List, in the Available Wireless Stations box it may be showing an unknown device with a MAC address, click add and then turn on wireless device and see if it connects.

      Hope this helps.

Click on Start, Network, Network and Connection Sharing (Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center)

Is the Globe an Earthy colour?

If not, Click Connect to a Network, See on the Left of that Image, Follow all the steps from there. Set it is a Private Network.

Did you enter the network as all CAPS? Although it shouldnt connect at all if you didnt.

It might also be worth uninstalling the wireless adapter and re-installing it again just incase the drivers went funyy.
