my connection over the last three days has dropped from nine months of 2mb to 470kb !! although my router still says it has connected at around 2mb when i try a speed test i get no higher than 480kb downstream,

so to sum up i have 1856/448 connection but true speeds of 481/381.!!!

anyone have any ideas why ?...thanks

      Re: from 2mb to 470kb !!!!

Yep you have a massive amount of CRC errors, most of the data coming down your line is corrupt. This will be either a fault on the line or internal wiring issues, I would try the test socket behind the face plate of you master socket assuming you have an NTE5, this will isolate the fault to your wiring or the BT line.

      Re: from 2mb to 470kb !!!!

You plugged into the test socket behind the face plate i.e. unscrewed it and pulled the front off?? If so yes looks like a line problem.

I have seen this before I believe this should be on but dont think its something you can do. Saturday or someone like that might be able to help you / confirm that. In the mean time I would have a look at your wiring see if you have ring wire connected etc.

      Re: from 2mb to 470kb !!!!

The only other thing is can you actually hear any noise on the line on the phone? Pick up the phone and just press one key to get rid of the dialing tone and listen, if there is then I would ring BT direct. If not then yep looks like you might have to ring Sky.
      Good luck.
