Re: What website will tell me what i can get?

The snag with approximators is they are not that accurate.

On Samknows, mine is estimated at 3.5mb max, however I get approx 7mb.

Re: What website will tell me what i can get?

      thanks for the reply.

But i'm getting up to 8mbps now and dont want to sign over unless i can get 16mbps as i'm quite happy where am i. But will be saving 10 a month and getting free phonecalls. So its worth looking into.

so there are no other sites apart from samknows? Where do sky get their info from?

      Hi

If you can get 8mb now, then you will get at least that on Sky.

Do you know how far from the exchange you are? Unless very close it is unlikely that you will get the full 16mb.

Sky will get their info from the BT database, which is I assume the same as Samknows.

Do you know any of your stats from your router?

Re: What website will tell me what i can get?

      Ok got this from samknow

The following table details the availability of LLU services at your location.

Be Unlimited is not yet available in your area
Bulldog is not yet available in your area
TalkTalk (CPW) has not yet unbundled your exchange
Sky Broadband / Easynet is not yet available in your area
Edge Telecom is not yet available in your area
Homechoice is not yet available in your area
Lumison is not yet available in your area
Node4 is not yet available in your area
Pipex is not yet available in your area
Tiscali is not yet available in your area
Orange is not yet available in your area
WB Internet is not yet available in your area
Zen is not yet available in your area
      And this far from exchange

You are approximately 142 metres from the exchange (straight line distance).
sorry don't know how to get stats from router?

so how can sky say i can get between 8-16mbps (depends on distance/exchange) when SK says i cannot?

      thanks for the help

Re: What website will tell me what i can get?

Sky Broadband / Easynet is not yet available in your area
This means that you cannot get an LLU connection from SKY, ie Base, Mid or MAX.

Therefore you are dependent on BT providing the service and Sky rebranding it as Connect @ 17.00 per month. This uses ADSLMAX as a technology and so the most you could get would be 8mb. As you are already getting 8mb, then theoretically all you would be doing is swapping it from supplier A to supplier B.

If B is cheaper than A then you are better off.

You are approximately 142 metres from the exchange (straight line distance).
If you could get an LLU connection then I would probably expect 16mb at that distance, but you are dependent on Sky / Easynet unbundling your exchange.

Re: What website will tell me what i can get?

Assuming the phonce call from sky is correct and you can now get base/mid/max, you need your router stats to know your potential speed.

If you post details of the make/model of your current router/usb modem then we may be able to help you get these stats.

Re: What website will tell me what i can get?

      My router is LINKSYS WAG354G

So how come i have got a letter here and 2 phonecalls today stating that i can get it.

      In the letter it says

"You've got a choice of 3 great bb options.

      Sky BB Base
      Sky BB Mid and
      Sky BB Max"

So i'm at a loss what to make of it.

Re: What website will tell me what i can get?

      354G v1.

Line stats can be accessed via a hidden page

      http://192.168.x.x/ADSLCStatus.htm

where x.x is probably 1.1 on the linksys, but could be 0.1

You need the downstream line attenuation figure

Sky / Easynet are very secretive about their exchanges and so Samknows may not have been given the information yet.

Samknows is normally about a week behind on exchange status.

For example, if your exchange was upgraded on 1st June, SK may not know until 8th June, and then that exchange goes through quality control etc.

From start to finish, roughly one month, so Sky may have in fact upgraded your exchange and are therefore preselling its capacity.

Have you rang to order it?
