      Would Max be any better?

      Hi all,
I have just noticed that my exchange has been unbundled, and was thinking of calling sky to upgrade to max. I have been having problems with connect, and the speeds are rubbish. Can someone have a look at my line stats, and see if you think i would benefit from the max service. (Thats if they will put me on it) Thanks

It looks like you have the 15.5 bug in your stats. Reboot your router and it should go away. Also run it a bit longer and do some downloading before you post again, stats for 1 min are next to useless

Re: Would Max be any better?

Thanks for the reply. I have just rebooted the router and will try and find something substantial to download.
I did call sky 4 days ago and they told me that they have to get in touch with bt and run some tests. They also told me that they would call me back within 24hrs, but surprise, surprise they didnt.
Another thing, everyday my "downstream connection speed" goes down a little more? Very strange. Would this be skys doing?
      Thanks

Connect is a rebadged BT product so you are connected to BT equipment in the exchange, it is a different ball game to being connected to Sky's LLU equipment in the exchange, but if you run the router for a few hours the stats may give us an idea as to what you can expect.

How long have you been connected? You are aware that the Connect product has a training period of about 10 days, in which time you speed can go up and down like a yo-yo until it finds the most stable rate? The Sky product does not require this training period.

Re: Would Max be any better?

It looks like you have been capped, probably to reduce line errors. If you were getting a stable 4000kbps, with no drop outs, there must have been some change in your line which has caused the errors and therefore, the reduction in speed. Even capped you are still showing errors. Were your latest stats taken from the Test socket? This is the only way you can rule out errors within your internal wiring.

The test socket is behind the faceplate of the Master socket, revealed by unscrewing the 2 screws and gently easing the faceplate off. Plug the filter into this socket and run it from here for a few hours. Being capped, I don't think you will see a lot of improvement, but if your errors disappear completely, this will indicate an internal problem which you may be able to fix.

      Hi,
Yeah this was from the test socket. Ive tried everything. Still didnt hear anything back from sky. Have to give them another call, but probably just get even slower speed.
      Thanks

Re: Would Max be any better?

It looks like the problem is out with your control. It is possible that some physical damage has been done to your line, maybe a loose connection somewhere between you and the exchange.

Unfortunately as you are on Connect, Sky will be able to do little about it, apart from testing your connection and report any fault to BT. You could try a Quiet line test to see if there is noise on your line. To do this dial 17070, then select option 2. If you hear any noise at all, phone BT and tell them you have a noisy line. Don't mention Broadband, as far as they are concerned you are having trouble with your voice line. If you say it is a Broadband problem, they will tell you to contact your ISP and do nothing. Any improvement they make in your voice line will be magnified on your ADSL connection.
