      Will i be without service?

I was thinking of setting up a dial up account just in case.

      What is the reliability like?

Thumbs up Re: Thinking of moving to SKY from Pipex today, any advise?

Hi, I came from pipex in april as i was sick of the 2mbs service , it was reliable enough but the speeds were poor and throttled to 25k/sec all day everyday, So i joined sky max, i had a few teething problems which was only a speed of 8mbs instead of 16mbs but i was happy even with that from what pipex gave me, I now have the full 16mbs for 10 and my speeds are max whenever i use it to download or browse and gaming pings for me are excellent ( better than what pipex gave me ) so all in all a bargain in my opinion. The changeover was around 10 minutes from pipex going down till the sky equipment went live and i got 8mbs which i thought was excellent.

So far i have had no downtime at all and like i said the only problem i have had was with the 8mbs instead of 16mbs but as long as your line stats are good enough ( with not alot of noise on your line ) you will be fine.

As with everything things can go wrong but you have to take the plunge sooner or later as i had similar concerns moving from pipex but who can be worse than them as an isp ?

      Regards

      Ian

Re: Thinking of moving to SKY from Pipex today, any advise?

I fully agree with the previous posting. Just on-line with Sky in the last week or so, switched because I didn't think I was getting value from Pipex on their Solo package (with Pipex for 5 years).

I have a sky 8mbs connection and am very pleased with it. I had a few niggles connecting (see the associated password thread on this service) and needed to tweak the router settings. However, followed the advice on the various settings and have a good reliable connection. E-mail is also working well.

Good luck if you go ahead.

      Regards,

      Jeff

I came from Freedom 2 Slowdown - owned by Pipex. Never regretted it for one second. And I save 14 a month and get a faster speed and a lot bigger download limit, oh and no traffic shaping!

No, you will need an ethernet card, or a network card, if you are unsure about how to fit, a local PC shop would supply and fit from between 10 - 20.00

If your PC is within the last 2 to 3 years, there is a good chance you already have one.

Have a read on google by typing in 'netgear 834gt' as thats the router you currently get ....

Have a read on how it works and what you need to connect your pc with wires or wirelessly.
