      Re: speed tests

Hi, there are plenty of speed test sites on the net, though this one seems to be fairly reliable.
Namesco BroadbandMax ADSL Broadband Bandwidth speedtest | Test your ADSL Broadband connection speed
Bare in mind however that none of them are entirely accurate and can be affected by outside factors such as how busy there server is at the time of the test etc.
With respect to your dropout, can you see what your noise margin is at the time of the dropout ? Failing that use this utility to get your router stats which should indicate if there is a problem.
Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4
Post the results here and some kind chap /ette will advise.

      Re: speed tests

Suggest you try using the RouterStats utility (see "Recording Noise Margin" thread) to monitor your noise margin throughout the evening. If it drops below about 6.5 during the problem period, then that is likely to be the reason for your connection problems. It is also very worthwhile spending some time to look at various relevant stickies in this forum. The answer to your problem is almost certainly in there somewhere.

      Re: speed tests

If you're not comfortable using the utility there's an equally effective method for dealing with noise margin problems that simply requires you to power off the router a few times. It is all explained in the first sticky in my signature at the bottom of this post.

However, I'm not absolutely confident this is your problem - to lose the connection at exactly the same time each day and not being able to get it back with a reboot suggests another problem.

I think you've read your speedtest results incorrectly. It isn't possible to have 8462kbps upload on an ADSL service.

      Re: speed tests

Yes you're certainly misreading something as first off, as I said before, an upstream of 6000kbps odd isn't possible on ADSL and second, your router stats show an upstream sync of 416kbps and there's no way to exceed that.

Try this speedtest. Based on your router sync you should see something like 5200 down and 330 up.

With regard to your evening disconnections, turn UPnP off in your router and read the sticky I pointed you to.

Once you've digested the info you might feel more confident about fixing your problems. You probably have a line noise problem looking at your attenuation and sync speed as you should be comfortably syncing at the full rate for Mid of 8096kbps.
