any chance of some feedback on the above info, am i synching as well as my line will allow or would it be worth one more try to ring sky tier 3 and see if there's more to be had?

any tools to tweak it a bit?

      any info greatly appreciated

      regards

      sam

With your attenuation, yes, there's more to be had.

However, Sky have put you on G.DMT and capped you at 8096kbps. Even so your line is still generating quite a high level of errors. Uncapped and on ADSL2+ your connection may be unstable.

Have a look at the cabling and faceplate help forum for info on testing and cleaning your line.

If you can sort your line issues out then if uncapped and on ADSL2+ you could hope for ~10500kbps. Not an enormous boost but worthwhile.

thanks v much for the info

i noticed the errors but i think it's still showing the errors from earlier? i.e. noisy line fault?

already done the cabling and faceplate check a while ago back when i was on aohell! i get the same stats on my hardwired extension as i do running of the test socket

if there's only a minor gain in sync to be had i might stick with gdmt?

is there much difference between uncapped gdmt and uncapped adsl2+?? i'm still a bit unsure as to the difference between the two, any info would be fab

just noticed the total time = 1 days 38 min 31 sec
it was only sorted out this afternoon so i think the errors are most prob way out - any way to reset the counters without dropping/resyncing i don't want the gubbins in the exchange to lower my profile!! especially now i'm up to fullish speed lol!

also, i'm supposed to be on the max package. shouldn't that mean i should be on adsl2+??

      regards

Well you'll have to forgive me doubting that. Getting the same stats with an extension and the test socket would be remarkable. In any event, what you did with AOL was then. This is now.

Sky's G.DMT has a theoretical max sync of ~12000kbps with "real world" a shade under 10000kbps. ADSL2+ has a theoretical sync of 24000kbps with real world ~22000kbps but capped to ~16000kbps on Sky.

No. ADSL2+ is only "better" on a relatively noise free line with an attenuation of less than 42-42db. You're on the threshold but your line is noisy.

u sure ur on max cos that's a mid cap u've got. Plus go to WAN setup on the router and check the MTU size is 1458. If not change it then monitor before running the test again and checking for errors. U've been capped for some reason but would need ur postcode to find out ur availability and phone availability

Re: finally after 10 weeks i'm 'properly' connected - line stats advice please guys

many thanks for the info guys!

the extension is about 10m long - there is a little difference to the stats but only by 0.1 db attenuation extra when using the extension

i'm deffo paying for the max package as per my bill hence my query about the sync of 8096 - i rang to speak to tier 3 last night only to end up with another ticket and will have to wait, again!

will dropping the mtu to suggested really help?

      regards

      sam

And what about the noise margin and error rate? You're capped. The sync speed won't change.

Changing the MTU to 1458 won't make a bit of difference. If your MTU is too large then packets have to be fragmented which means a lower transmission speed. Nothing to do with sync speed. Nothing to do with errors. In any event these days the network will take care of packet size.

Re: finally after 10 weeks i'm 'properly' connected - line stats advice please guys

      sorry, should've clarified a little

when using the extension i gain about 0.1db attenuation and lose 0.1db of noise margin - the stats remain steady regardless of wether i use the extension or not which is good i hope?

can u confirm then that i'm on a mid connection? if so i guess i'll need to phone sky - again!!!

      regards

Re: finally after 10 weeks i'm 'properly' connected - line stats advice please guys

That's a remarkably good extension then

No you're not on a Mid connection. You're capped at 8096kbps downstream but your upstream is uncapped at 768kbps which is a Max profile.

Uncapped you could expect ~10000kbps on ADSL2+ with a relatively noise free line. Sky have capped you and put you on G.DMT which is the right thing to do considering your line errors. In fact I'm surprised they haven't capped you further.

If you were uncapped and on ADSL2+ your connection would be very poor.
