Beware about putting direct debits and standing orders on a credit card, you cant get the credit card company to cancel them like you can a bank, they say it has to be cancelled by the company drawing on it. So if Plusnet or who ever wont cancel it you are in trouble. That is unless the rules have changes since my problem a couple of years ago, Some insurance company were taking money from my card and the card company wouldn't cancel it.
I have never putting a direct debit on a credit card since.

had alot of issues with freeserve/wanadoo/orange still billing. Their arguement is they thought u wanted a mac code just out of curiosity. Could be they're more likely to keep charging or could just be they had more customers but end of the day u look after ur own bills.
It doesn't get better than this band lol

Surely though they get notified when you transfer away from them?

One would think so, but took me 6 months to get BT to stop billing me for broadband that they themselves pulled the plug on!

I did just a few weeks ago, I switched to Sky in Nov last year! I also informed BT in Novemeber I was moving to Sky and they gave me a mac code. Took about 10 phone calls usually to foreign parts, explaining over and over again. Each time they said no problem its all sorted now but refused to confirm that in writting or by email. So each time I made 2 or 4 phone calls trying to get through to the right department, then had to wait 3 months for my next bill to see if they have actually sorted it.

I had the same problem when I left my old ISP. When you're issued a MAC it's supposed to make your old account cease once you've migrated. But my ISP claimed the migration to Sky's LLU doesn't make this happen automatically like it's supposed too for some reason.

I had to make some calls and they closed my account manually and I did eventually get a refund.

Bummer. I made the same assumption...

I didnt cancel my old ISP manually (I have now). Looks like I'm going to have to chase them for refund now :-(

Re: Old ISP - account still live?

Reading all the above to see what people's experience have been. Today my Sky broadband became active (recived automated Sky message confirming this).

I have migrated from BT to Sky using a Mac code, but notice that my BT account (email) still remains active. Phoning BT today to check regarding cancellation of their service, they report that they have heard nothing regarding the move from SKY.

I've asked BT to manually cancel their service which according to the advisor I spoke to involved engineers doing something at the exchange??? I asked whether this change would interrupt my Sky service, to which the advisor said they do not touch the Sky equipment. Apparently the cancellation should take place on the 28 August.

I'll let you know what happens.

Re: Old ISP - account still live?

Yep when I left BT last November I had recieved my phone bill around the same time but when I recieved my next bill 3 months later it had an 80 charge on it for broadband I hadn't been recieving, it took 6 months and alot of arguing to get my money back from them as they had taken it by direct debit.
