      Sky connect

      Hi all,
Sorry to bother you, but could do with some info. I have recently got Sky BB. I was told intnitialy by sky, that i would be able to get 4mb speeds.
However, i have been doing some online speed tests and only seem to be getting 400kb speeds. I know these tests are not very accurate, but surely they are not that far out. My connection is really bad, and i cant seem to stay online very long before the connection drops. I have e-mailed support, but still no reply. From reading the recent posts, i can see that this seems to be a big problem with sky. Can anyone shed some light on my situation? I have treid the master socket, and have called BT who tell me there is no line fault. Here are my stats.....

      Hi

You are only connecting at just under 3mb, have you tried the test socket?

If you can try that and then repost your stats.

      Re: Sky connect

      Hi there.
Thanks for the reply. Those readings are through the test socket.
If the 3mb is right, then surely the connection should be better. Its so slow, and like i said, the connection keeps dropping.
Im not so good with this sort of thing.
      Thanks

      Re: Sky connect

      Hi

If you are connecting through your test socket, that is about the best your line can support.

You can try the following to help with stability.

      1) Turn off UPnP

      http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/view.php?pg=routerstats

Towards the bottom of that page it mentions it, turn it off and then reboot your router.

      Re: Sky connect

Don't give up, have you tried the thread I linked to?

You are 1mb better off on Sky and so you should be getting better than you had before.

      Who were you with?

      Re: Sky connect

I used to be with Virgin, but it was the "No contract" one. Thats another story though!!! Anyhows, i followed the link you gave me, i also found another speed test site (not too sure how), but i am now getting 1900kbps download speeds, so thats already an improvement.
Thank you agian for your time, its greatly appreciated.

      Re: Sky connect

      Hi

Cable will always be better as it is not dependent on BT's ailing lines, as long as you are happy, then that's ok!

Don't be afraid to ask if you are not sure about anything, we are a friendly (and drunk) bunch of peeps.

      Smile Re: Sky connect

It wasn't cable, it was just through the phone line. They were the only ones offering a "no contact" and at the time its seemed the right choice.
Just one more thing. At the bottom of the router home page, there is a box called "sky test". When i click it, a box comes up and then after a while i get the message " Error 300" do you have any idea what that means?
      Thanks
