      Connection Doctor in the house?

      Hi folks,

I'm on Sky Max, and my speeds / latency are consistently terrible. I've never connected above 4Mb, and as a gamer the service is nearly unplayable.

Live about 1 mile from exchange, and my socket is brand new..

Here are some stats for me - if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

      Peace out.

      Tarpey

Re: Connection Doctor in the house?

Were the stats taken from the Test socket, behind the facelate? Your Attn seems to indicate that you are a lot more than a mile from the exchange, the phone line must have a big loop in it if you are. Try taking the stats from the test socket, to rule out internal wiring faults.

Samknows can give an indication of how far you are from your exchange. Remember, you are not necessary connected to your nearest exchange.

Re: Connection Doctor in the house?

Thanks IIMe - I would say I'm no more than 1.5 miles maximum from my local exchange - Earlsdon. Thanks for the link btw. Does this mean I'm totally screwed? What do you mean by behind the faceplate?

      Cheers,

      Tarpey

If you have a new type Master socket, unscrew the 2 screws holding the front on and gently pull it loose. Be careful you do not dislodge any wires from their connectors at this stage. This will reveal another socket behind it, this is the test socket, try plugging in here.

Re: Connection Doctor in the house?

      Thanks again IIMe,

I have tried the test socket as suggested, and I'm still reading attn of 49.0 and a SNR of 7.6

Least we can rule the wiring out....

Sounds like a big job to get anything to improve, I can't see tier 1 support doing much to recitify the situation. Looks like a problem with the loop.

Anyone else had a similar experience...? I'm on sky max, but get booted from online games for being too laggy!

      Thanks again for the help,

      Tarpey
