Question More than one PC connected causes router to hang?

I'm on 'mid' with the standard sky router. My problem is that although I can have either of my PC's connected with no problems, if I have both switched on at the same time the router crashes after about 10 - 15 minutes. (I don't have to do any network related things, just having both PC's on at the same time is enough to do it.)

I have my desktop machine connected with a LAN cable and the laptop via a wireless network card. Both machines are running XP Home with SP2.

Anyone any ideas on what the cause might be?

Re: More than one PC connected causes router to hang?

Just further to my above post, I just had XP pop up a balloon advising that my wireless network had lost connectivity because the router had not assigned an IP, and attempting to repair it failed. I only had one machine on at that point and had been using it for about 20 mins when that happened, but the other machine had been on earlier.

I am wondering whether I should be setting up static IP addresses in the router for each machine?

chances are line can't handle the traffic 2 PCs are requesting and so dropping IP so you can't browse the net....get ur line stats up and then we can see from them...

Interesting! Someone else has reported this exact same problem here!

As you will see in that post, I personally like to just get manual IP addresses on the client PCs and see how that goes :-) That's not to say it will fix your problem though - I've never heard of a router crashing as soon as 2 machines connect to it. Dodgy router maybe?

Re: More than one PC connected causes router to hang?

Its probably a selection of routers that have this problem, Like the UPnP bug, Didnt effect all, But did some.

All I can say is we have about 3-4 Devices connected all the time and we dont experience this, Maybe you could get Sky to replace it, In that case you would have two - Maybe one to experiment with?
