went from AOHELL to SKY now i'm suicidal!

hi all, i need some advice

i was allegedly supposed to be online with sky bb max as of 03/04/07

i won't bore you with the the details but after endless phone calls regarding no sync i finally managed to get connected as of 06/05/07 but only after managing to get through to a nice tier 3 chap logged onto my exchange and tweaked the ar*e out of my line to get us running but only with the following

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 128 kbps
Line Attenuation 42.0 db 26.5 db
Noise Margin 7.2 db 4.0 db

i used to get 8128 down and 448 up with the above line stats on aol????

a fault has been logged (apparently) approx 5 times now if sky have done what they've said but still no improvement, i dont think bt are particularly bothered about getting it sorted

      regards

      sam

Talking Re: went from AOHELL to SKY now i'm suicidal!

With your detailed stats the errors are FEW but an attenuation of 42 should get around 8mbs, your SNR is 7.1 which is about the norm for a connection so you are not capped, Have you changed anything like added a telephone extension, or anything else. using any telephone extension other than plugging straight into the master socket can cause problems. Your line ( and internal wiring ) wont get over 4mbs with an snr of 7.1 unless you do have a major noise problem on your phoneline which you can normally hear a crackling or humming when using for normal voice calls.

Re: went from AOHELL to SKY now i'm suicidal!

no faults within the house thats a deffo as i 'was' getting 8meg as you mentioned but back when i was with aol

the guy in sky tier3 had to throttle the connection at the exchange back to give us a stable connection but as you can see its affectd both upstream and downstream quite drastically

since the switch to sky we've been hearing other peoples conversations on the line! sky rang me and said bt had conformed they would switch our line over to another and get it sorted but i'm not holding my breath!!

Sounds like if bt sort the ine out it will be fine, I dont know if bt change the equipment over in the exchange or what happens, but whoever does the exchange work seems to have messed up your telephone line, I would e-mail sky ( rather than ring ) and make sure they say they have a date for the bt guy to fix the line or a rough estimate how long it will take.

      Hope it gets sorted.

Bt does the work in the exchange i believe, as they don't allow anyone else to 'mess' with the exchange equipment.
