      My Speed Looks Weird

      Hello,

Iv had sky for about a month now, im on the Mid Package. First Time with ADSL, but anyway.

      Downstream Attenuation = 15.5
      Noise Thing = 7

Im only getting a connection of arround 3380 something liek that.

I was wondering, my Downstream Attenuation seems quite good? but im getting such low speeds. I have tried unplugging everything so that only the Modem is plugged in (with microfilter). I only have 1 socket in the house so i cant see why it would be the wireing.

I have run the TCP optimiser and im still getting the same speeds. I was thinking of upgrading my package to the max plan and according to my Downstream Attenuation i should be able to get 16-20MB on ADSL2.

Can some1 help me lower the noise? Also, the exchange is very close to me, i can see it from my window :P

      -Terry

Use this Sky Netgear DG834GT utility version 0.4 to extract your detailed stats and post them here, they might show up a problem.

      Re: My Speed Looks Weird

Attenuation = lower the better, closer to your exchange.

SNR (or Noise Thing) = higher the better. You want to aim for anthing over 6 or your connection becomes unstable.

You need to post some detailed stats as this will show a lot more information such as a 'noisy line' or other problems.

Have you tried pugging the router into the engineers test socket which is behind the BT faceplate ???.

OK, im not at the router its at the other houce, and about the socket, well, im not sure where it is, the houce is quite new i think, and the socket has a small BT logo on it with 2 screws, but no line like the ones shown on the forums.

Ill try and get the detailed stats soon, might take a week though.

      Any other suggestions?

      Re: My Speed Looks Weird

I would run details stats before and after using the test socket.

The BT socket is square shaped and has a panel on bottom half held by two screws. Undo the screws and take off the panel, as you take it off you will see the connection that goes from the faceplate into the engineers test socket on the right hand side.

Plug your router and microfilter into the test socket cuts off all your internal wiring and will give two sets of stats to go over.

      Re: My Speed Looks Weird

Attenuation of 15.5db may be a bug showing. Try restarting the router a couple of times to get the true figure.
