      connection speed on sky?

finally got my router today and trying to get things sorted out.
i am on max package but router stats show my download connection speed to be 8096kbps.
i expected this to be higher so how is this speed determined.

i am 1.39km as crow flies from my exchange and have just fitted new xte2005 socket over my master socket.
      stats from router are:
      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8096 kbps 768 kbps
Line Attenuation 41.0 db 27.0 db
Noise Margin 11.0 db 13.0 db

imy speedtests haven't been great and tried a torrent which seemed to max out at around 750kb.

is there any way to get the speed increased. i wasn't expecting full 16mg service but did expect around 10-11mg. i expected the connection/sync speed to be higher on router but then not actually hit those speeds when downloading.
i seem to be near enough maxing a 8mb connection.

probably have all this completely mixed up so appreciate any info anyone can provide.

one thing i just thought of! i had my old netgear router connected when line went active as sky screwed up my sky router.
it was probably only capable of 8096kbps. will bt or sky have capped my line at this speed as that was what my old router could only receive??
the old router did appear to have a connection on tuesday when line went active and i only disconnected it the other day!!
hope i haven't screwed up my connection!!! or rather hope sky haven't by not sending me router before i was connected!!

Barney that is your normal speed, ignore your attentuation, if your noise margini s @ 12.7db it can't go any lower without losing sync. So its already syncing at the highest it can without destabilising. You've just got to accept thats the fastest you can get. is1111 thats the fastest you will get 2

thats about right for the attenuation, but have you tried plugging in your master socket. im 2.3km from the exchange in a straight line and my attenuation on adsl is only 30.

Your line attenuation does seem a tad high,
for someone only 1.39 km away.
However Land lines do not follow Crows
So it could be double that, in reality.

Also I would not take the Test socket of your Master Socket as 100%,
That only proves extension wiring is good or bad,
A fault as simple as corrosion on BT's side of the Master socket
would also push up line attenuation...

In March I had a attenuation of 53 db and I'm 1.1km away
my Sync rate was fluctuating between 3990KB/s and 4680KB/s,
      downloads were between 2 & 3 MB

BT could find nothing wrong in my house or outside,
So I asked him to take the Master Socket apart, and clean the Wire,
He did so, and my Sync Rate jumped straight up to 8128 KB/s
has not moved in nearly 6 months. downloads speed up to 7MB
      on DSLMAX..

That noise margin is very low, you might experience disconnects.
