Extremely high bandwidth usage showing on Bandwidth Monitor meter

I have just been connected on Max about a week ago. Just seeking advice on why I am experiencing so high usage on my Bandwidth Monitor meter.I remember when I initially connected to SkyBroadband I had "Error 200" showing on my router. I scan my PC daily, no sign of virus or spyware. I do some downloading but no way am i using this much daily. What could be the problem? Here are the details of this weeks report from my meter.

Re: Extremely high bandwidth usage showing on Bandwidth Monitor meter

No, I do not use Sky by Broadband and have not installed Kontiki. Thanks for the tip, I'll stay clear of Sky by Broadband. Still does not help with my current problem. May have to ring Tech Support. I do not want to be capped as per Sky's fair usage policy.

Re: Extremely high bandwidth usage showing on Bandwidth Monitor meter

Your usage does appear to be very high. A couple of points you could check-
1. Is the monitor actually measuring the internet traffic, or all your network which includes local transfer of files between one PC and another.
2. Do you have the wireless access point enabled. If you do, is it secure, someone could be stealing your bandwidth if it is not. More seriously it could be used for illegal downloading. If you don't use it, turn it off.

Re: Questions

1) no file transfers, just internet traffic
2) yes, but well encrypted with WPA-PSK

I am confused.

Re: Extremely high bandwidth usage showing on Bandwidth Monitor meter

You could try a different monitor to see if that reports similar useage, I use tautology which seems ok and is free.

Re: Extremely high bandwidth usage showing on Bandwidth Monitor meter

I have been having another think about this and have come to the conclusion that a) You must have very big hard drives if you can download over 200 Gbs in a week and not run into space problems or b) The bandwidth monitor is telling porkies.

What you could do is download and install Treesize This will show you where/what all the data on your PC is. From this you may be able to work out what is happening.
