Thumbs down Cancel a contract -what a laugh!

I got sky BB in February. All fine.
I've had Sky TV since ooo... 2002.

So, last month, I got a job offer in a different country. I accepted it. Good move for me and my family. We've sold the house. Move planned... we're off in July!

Called Sky to cancel, offering to pay off the 12 month contract, as I have 6 or so months left. They told me to shove it, and that I need to pay them the SkyBB AND my Sky+ (Which I've had since 2005)! I told them I signed up for SkyBB for a year, and they say the two are tied together, to I automatically renewed my Sky+

What a load of crud! So, they're not budging. I must pay the whole lot.

I told them I would simply terminate my telephone number, close my accounts, and they can have a ball, as I will be leaving the UK permanently.

Anyone else suffer from this? What slimey swines. I feel all people who got the SkyBB for 5 have been conned. Possibly something in the small print somewhere? They're on drugs.

      congrats with the move

Regarding the contract tie....when you ordered sky BB now they let you know this....or at least the sales person i was speaking to told me....however back in feb when you ordered it that might have not been the case.

Sounds like your plan is almost full proof though

Except for the poor sod that gets your line and finds there is a tag on it, unless he wants Sky, he could have a very bad time.

But BT are ceasing my line. Surely when the new occupiers get a phone line, it can't possibly be locked...

In all fairness to Sky (and the Sales guys) they do make that clear when you sign up, that the TV will also have a 12month renewal on it. so when you agree you are then liable to pay it.

Congrats on the move, good luck to you and your family.

If your ceasing the line, I doubt there will be a problem for the next occupants and Sky will then need to chase you for the remainder (which will eventually effect your credit rating).

Might just be easier to switch to the minimum package on TV side and pay it. For the remainding 6 months.

Or you can do as your suggesting and wait for them to chase you (up to you I wouldn't be comfortable doing that as I was clearly informed during sign up)

I am not sure about that, THIS is Ofcom's reply to a customer with a tagged line.

I was not told I would be tied to the TV contract, as another user mentioned.

What other user? Everyone in this thread that mentioned Sales has said they have been told by Sales about it.

      Unless I am going blind.

Don't get me wrong I have/am having my own issues with Sky BB and I am no fan of them at all but fair is fair, and persoanlly I was told about it. If you honestly were not told then that is a different scenario altogether.

Re: Cancel a contract -what a laugh!

2nd post mentioned that they do it now, but maybe not in Feb. I certainly would never had rejoined Sky+ for an extra year, so if they had mentioned it, I'd have aborted. I don't mind paying off my SkyBB contract, but certainly not the Sky+ one...

Possibly - I signed up in Jan and was told about it however.

Any roads good luck with whatever you decide to do, and good luck with your move and new life.
