Please Help - Rubbish sync speed!

      Greetings all,

I've been browsing this site for the past day or so and have found the info here great.

I've recently (2 days ago) migrated from Freedom2surf LLU to sky BB Max. The migration went fine...downtime was like 10min if that.

However, the sync speed is 2048/416 (speed test shows 1.7MB) . Considering i was on 4MB at freedom2surf...to have dropped over half my speed is quite bad I'm at the same exchange as before...using almost the same equipment as before (apart from the new sky router).

So yeah, i need some advice please Below is the router status details. The only thing that looks really worrying is the SNR....thats supposed to be the lower the better correct?

If ppl think it is the SNR that is messing things up can you give some advice on what things i could do to lower it.

Also i notice its not on adsl2 at moment...even though apparently my exchange can handle up to 12mb......

      Many many thnx in advance

      Alex

--------------EDIT Distance from exchange is 1KM as the crow files....knew i had missed summin out lol

hmm, i'd say you are probably capped by sky?

As F2S was getting a higher speed, we cant blame it on the test socket or the usual things.

You could try mognuts util in my sig and set a lower noise margin and see if it does sync at the lower noise level. If it doesn't then I think that defo means sky have capped so you'd need to talk to them.

You have not been running for long enough to get good detailed stats, run for 24 hrs and then take them.
SNR is better high than low, I have never seen anyone on the forum with an SNR as high as yours, most struggle to keep it above 7. Looking at your SNR and Attn, you should be getting a far better speed, better even than you had with your previous ISP.

Re: Please Help - Rubbish sync speed!

      Morning all,

no change over night. Rebooted the router and also disconnected it this morning for 5-10mins.

My noise margin is 30.6 down and 13.0 up. Thats looks very nice indeed! However still syncing at the rubbish 2048/416. line att 34/20 which seems fine...not perfect...but not as bad as 60 as some ppl have.

So yeh, today i'm just gonna let it chill and just use the internet and see if it sorts itself out. Let it build up some detailed stats. I'll re-get the stats later on tonight and see if that brings to light anything.

Thats two people who think i'm on base package settings now....mmmm....should this be easily fixed? Also how would i go about getting it fixed? is it something that tier 1 can fix? or would i need to get tier 1 to raise a ticket and forward me onto tier 3?

Either way, if things haven't improved by tomorrow early afternoon i'm phoning tech support any helpful things i should say to them ( 'buzz' words etc) that would help me get it sorted quickly? also should i use the number on the side of the Sky BB box (08706 005 630) or is there a better/different one?

Either way, on the plus side, if i was expecting a 2mb/400 line i'd be really happy as both upload and download speeds are at the sync speed (minus overheads)...........................however im not expecting 2mb/400 the least im expecting is to equal the F2S llu which was min 4mb and double the upload upto 768 (4mb/768).....according to whats been said already in this thread my 'demands' look incredibly easy.

Anywayz, shall see how this goes.

Thnx again for the guidance guys & gals

      Alex

Re: Please Help - Rubbish sync speed!

If you get errors with a noise margin of 30.6db then you have a truly awful line.

You are on the base package sync rates. Whether that is intentional or not (to reduce massive line errors) is the issue.

Re: Please Help - Rubbish sync speed!

in the detailed stats from last night there were no errors....as far as i saw.....correct?

Either way, im thinking of giving tech support a call in a minute. Got some rare spare time on my hand so gonna see if i can get some things double checked. I will mention the base package sync rate thing, i'll get them to check what package my account says im on.

No errors but then it was only 10 minutes, practically no traffic and a huge noise margin.

You may have errors which would appear when uncapped - you may not. There's no reliable way to predict in advance in your current circumstances. However your router reported max speed suggests if there are any they may not be too bad.
