      Download Cap ?

I'm getting a really annoying problem with my Sky Connect package. If I download a file (regardless of where from) the download begins at a reasonable pace 100-300k/sec usually then will instantly drop to 30k/sec and never go above this amount. I have tried speaking to Sky support without much luck . Any ideas anyone ???

      where are you d/ling from.

As connect is the BT Maxdsl product, then there is throttling on p2p services etc.

      Re: Download Cap ?

It's not torrent stuff it's things like game demos/video etc. One example is files from gamershell.com which offers downloads from numerous mirrors. They all are affected by this problem.

Full Games: CellFactor: Revolution Free Full Game - Demo Movie Patch Download Section - GamersHell.com

Try the UK mirror from here it starts at over 200kb/sec then instantly drops to 32ish kb/sec for me.

      Re: Download Cap ?

looks like its the server performance on that site.

It started at 700KB/s for me and has now dropped to 12.5KB.

Every other site I have downloaded from gives me a constant 700KB/s.

You'll need to try another server (mirror) or another website.

      Re: Download Cap ?

Having just changed from BT to Sky I have sites which I uses regularly for downloads that now seem considerably slower than they were with my old BT setup and the Belkin router.

Thanks for the quick response and all the help so far. I'll press on with some other d/loads and see what results I get.

      Re: Download Cap ?

I too think I'm being capped. I've had Sky Broadband Connect (upto 8meg) for around 2 months now and over the past week my connection speed has dropped to around 1-2 meg at peak times, whereas before I was always getting around 5-7 meg. Funnily enough, this speed drop happened after a couple of downloads one weekend. Since then I have contacted Sky on numerous occasions and they keep telling me that everything is fine and that I'm not being capped, and that I should be getting around 7 meg!!! I have tried everything from resetting the router (by powering off, using the reboot function in the browser and at the back of the router) and tried the master test socket but none of this seems to make a difference.

Please guys help, as I am at a loss. I have told them that the only explanation can be that they are capping me (especially as soon as I complained my speed went back up to 5 meg) but they say that they are definitely not capping me. Also, there technical support line is a joke!

Here are my router stats after running a speed test from Speedtest.net in which my download speed was 1109kbps. What speed do you guys think I should be getting based on these stats?:

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 18.0 db
Noise Margin 11.3 db 24.0 db
