I know that the direct distance is not necessarily the wiring distance, but is there anything that can be raised with BT about this?

For instance, can I get them to check the line etc? Or is it just tough ?

Have you tried your test socket behind the face plate of your master? just to rule out internal wiring problems. Which turned out to be where my problems were.

I've tried the master socket. I dont have any other extensions or anything plugged in to the master socket.

Master socket just plugs into the test socket anyway, doesnt it? I suppose it could be a dodgy face plate?

If you had a real mess of wired in extensions then you might find that the attenuation would drop a couple of db when plugged into the test socket. Similarly if you have heavily corroded connections and you cleaned them up this might also reduce it by a db or two.

But, the fact you have to face is that the vast majority, if not all of that 53.5db attenuation is going to be down to your line length.

Like Saturday said its more than likely down to your actual line length, i`m only 700 metres from my exchange, my attenuation is 21.5db which tells me that my line length is more like 1.5 Km.
