      Sky's 6mb BB Package Help.

      Hi everyone

Im on the normal package with sky and it comes with the up to 6mb broadband. Currently its running at

      DownStream Connection Speed 1920 kbps

      UpStream Connection Speed 416 kbps

It goes down to 1500kbps at night times. Is this normal? I find it loosing connection if I go on to many things at the same time aswell and my online game pings tend to be over 100 I just looked where the exchange was and according to a website, its approx 2.1miles away. Does anyone recommend me going on to the 16mb package? What kind of speeds would I be getting?

Is there anywhere I could find out my SNR (dB) Attn(dB)?

      Thanks for all your helps

There is no up to 6mb package.

Your profile says you're on Base and your connection speed is correct for this package.

You may find the first sticky in my signature at the bottom of this post helpful to bring you up to speed with what you can expect from your connection.

I see, so going off the table

      Attenuation.............Approximate Line Length............Potential Connection Speed
      32db...................................2.3km...... ...............................16000kbps
      35db...................................2.5km...... ...............................14500kbps
      40db...................................2.9km...... ...............................11800kbps
      45db...................................3.2km...... .................................8500kbps
      50db...................................3.6km...... .................................6500kbps
      55db...................................4.0km...... .................................4500kbps
      60db...................................4.3km...... .................................3200kbps

If i get the 16mb package im looking at 5000kbps?

Re: Sky's 6mb BB Package Help.

looks that way - for me it seems if i get put onto LLU ( which i will ask not to happen) ill only gain an extra 200kbps and be charged double for it

      So im staying on connect.

If i ever needed to speed up i'd go back onto VM

      My stats suck slightly..

Down 47.0db and noise of 5.9

Up 31.5db and noise of 25.0

No your attenuation is 58db so you could expect ~3500kbps provided you have a relatively noise free line. Looking at your stats you have a bit of noise evident so you may get less speed than that.

Re: Sky's 6mb BB Package Help.

Well i am now plugged directly into the test socket ( dunno if that is against any rules) and while my noise is still the same my down sync is now 7264 which is around 800kbps more than it was.

I am going to get BT to install a new master socket and an extension to my office - samknows says i am 2.07km from my exchange yet my noise is hurrendous - it seems to be alot for a line with a 2km estimated distance

and, strangely enough, as of about 2 hours ago i cannot seem to get anything ABOVE 2MB in speed - i've tried speedtest.net - zen's speedtest - a direct download from MicroSoft - even giganews's speedtest and none of them can get about 2000kbps

is this due to me being plugged into the test socket?

      (
No. All you're doing with the test socket is disconnecting all other house phone wiring. You can use it permanently if you want to but of course, any extensions will be disconnected.
