      takes 5- 10 mins to get a connection and keeps disconnecting

      Hi,
      I got Sky BB about 4 weeks ago and all seemed fine.. Now, it can take between 5-10 minutes to get a connection when I turn the computer on (no internet light and error message when I try and access webpage). Obviously, this could probably sorted out by leaving the router on 24 hours a day, but I prefer to turn router off at night, due to an incident with a spontaneously combusting TV a couple of years ago!

      Also, I have been getting many disconnects recently. I have unchecked the UPnP box, but it made no difference. I am using Vista, ethernet and IE7.
      These are my stats:

      I am on the free package. Does anyone have any idea what else I can try to solve the disconnect problem? I play a lot of internet poker, so its a real problem if it disconnects at the wrong time!

      Sorry, forgot to add - the last time it disconnected, it took another 5-10 minutes to reconnect

      Welcome to the forum

      Are you connecting wirelessly? Sounds more like a pc to router problem rather than an ADSL connection problem although if you mean the internet light on the router goes off then that's not a wireless problem.

      With regard to your router, they're designed to be left on but turn it off at night if you feel happier. One thing though - make sure you have it mounted on the supplied feet.

      Hi,

      Thanks for your reply. The router is standing upright on its feet, so it shouldn't overheat. I am not using wireless.

      When I try to make the initial connection, there is no green internet ('i') light on the modem for 5-10 minutes and quite often there is no green 'i' light for a while after it has disconnected either.

      Can anyone think of anything else I could try to sort it out?

      OK it's definitely not a wireless problem then.

      What you describe sounds like your router is losing the connection to the exchange. This means you either have an exchange fault or a router fault. Your router logs may give a clue.

      A simple way to eliminate the router as the problem would be to try another one. Do you have another router you can try? It may even be a faulty router cable/microfilter - try changing these if you can.

      If you can't solve the problem then you'll have to call Sky.
