      Another newbie asking for help

      Hello.
I have had Sky broadband for about a month now, and it is starting to frustrate me. Several times a day the connection to the internet disappears and I have to reboot the router to get it back. I have tried plugging it into the master socket, but to no avail. I did manage to get the statistics from the router if anyone can shed any light on them. I am on the mid package. This issue occurs for both wireless and cabled connections.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

      Welcome to the forum

Most likely the UPnP "bug". To fix it, log into your router and untick UPnP, click apply then reboot the PC and router.

Next most likely is a falling noise margin. See the first sticky in my signature at the bottom of this post.

When you've sorted that check out the cabling and faceplate help forum - you line is showing a fair amount of errors - nothing desperate though. That's probably not the cause of your disconnections but it will give other problems.

Thanks for the tips. The uPnP setting was already off thanks to previous posts I have read here. I tried the BT test socket, but that produced the same behaviour. I also followed your tips with regards to falling noise margins, it was falling to a low of 4.9, when rebooted it would go back to 8 and then fall again. I did this process many many times. I just called SKY support and was amazed to get to speak to someone within 10 minutes. He did some basic tests and said all was ok, we went through other troubleshooting processes, and eventually he tried to connect me to tier 3 support. However, it was rather busy and he couldn't get through. I was given a ticket number and told to call back at a less busy time. Wonder when that is.....

      Any further suggestions?
      Thansk.

Re: Another newbie asking for help

Now you've raised a ticket with T3 you'll almost certainly get capped.

To avoid this I'd suggest you raise your noise margin using Mognuts to reduce your errors.

Then I'd have a look at the line errors and see what I could do to reduce/eliminate them. If you can get your errors down you'll probably find the noise margin fluctuates less. However, be prepared to always manage your noise margin higher than the default.

Hard to say. I'd have thought set it to around 12db would make an impact but you will need to experiment. It depends on how much your noise margin swing is. Find a figure which keeps your noise margin above around 8-9db at all times until you find out what's causing the noise and eliminate it.
