Slow Max service - help with stats plz

      Hi

I've had Sky Max BB for about 3 weeks now. I'm not sure how to read the stats (total N00b) and any help would be appreciated. I've done loads of online speed tests and they all come back at about 3.5MB ... which isn't terrible but I feel should be better given that I'm paying for the max bundle ... cheers

From the stats you posted above you seem to be firing on all cylinders on 14645 kbps, what BB speed test are you using ???

I always use speedtest.bbmax.co.uk, not as sexy as some but I find it far more accurate.

Re: Slow Max service - help with stats plz

      Thanks for the reply

I've used a few different speed tests including:

      ThinkBroadband
      speakeasy
      bandwidthplace
broadband max - latest is 3948 up and 641 down.

Up doesn't seem to be a problem, only down. I am 1.3km from my exchange ....

If the router is reporting 14mb sure I should be at least over 8mb ... or am I missing something?

you're on an up to 16mbps connection, which should turn around a real time download useage of about 2MB/sec (under optimum conditons of course)....you're is about 14mbps which equates to about 1.75MB/sec.....i think!!

i'd give BT OpenWorld Speed Test a go, it gives you a real file to download so you can see your transfer rate.....seems much more accurate to me

EDIT: BBMax one is just as good actually....one of the best I've used

Re: Slow Max service - help with stats plz

On the speed test .. I got around 440KB\s on all files - small medium and large ...

What does that work out to?

Only 2 minutes later I did the following test -

      Bandwidth Speed Test

and it told me I was only on 1.2MB .....

Wired you should be getting ~11900kbps.

Wireless - could be anything. How are you connecting?

Re: Slow Max service - help with stats plz

I am connecting over wireless. It's just a standard Dell Laptop and about 2 meters from the router with excelent signal.

I did try plugging directly into it, but I wasn't able to get it working. I disabled the wirelss on the laptop, enabled the LAN .... then plugged it in. From what I understand the router should just give the laptop an IP adress and that's that.

However, the laptop was getting some strange IP address, not in the 168. range at all .... so I was really confused and gave up in the end.

When I do connect over wireless it says connected at 54MB. When I do the speed tests I close all windows and stuff and make sure I'm the only one using the line.

Looking at the stats, is there definitly no problems with Noise and stuff. I'm only 1.3km's fro mthe exchange so I was expecting it top be pretty good !!

Re: Slow Max service - help with stats plz

Then I'd be 99% sure your main problem is with your wireless connection. It may well be reporting "excellent" and 54mb but that is the signal strength and not the connection quality.

Wired will always give you the best connection speed. If you must be wireless then I'd recommend experimenting with different channel numbers and ensure your router is off the floor and away from any possible electrical interference including dect phones..

      Your stats are fine.
