      WOW

I managed to sort out an ethernet connection. Turns out that when my brother last borrowed my laptop he hard coded some IP settings ... which is why I coudn't get it to work before.

It's made all the difference. I'm downloading over 12MB and up at almost 700Kb.

On teh BT speed test on page one the large file came down at 1.3MB\s

so I guess no prroblem apart from wireless is pretty rubbish.

Is there any where on sky wireless router where you can see if the speed is limited or anything .... I doubt it but just wanted to know if there's anything I can do to speed up the wireless. I've done the usual stuff like put it high, away from other electronics and so on .....

That's why I could be 99% sure your problem was wireless. On LLU, if a download speed is massively lower than the sync speed then it's most often a wireless issue. If not that then incorrect TCP/IP settings (fixed with TCPoptimizer). With Connect it could be just network congestion but then the speeds will vary considerably. Line errors have to be exceedingly high to affect download speed to the extent you experienced.

No there are no speed limiting settings for wireless in the router. The biggest difference you can make tends to be changing to a different channel, then positioning etc.

Wireless will always be less satisfactory than ethernet. The Sky router is not a particularly for wireless strength/range/connection.
