Do I need to use Skys router??

      Help required!!!

I have just changed over to Sky Broadband and have now been told my line is active. I have my username and password on the letter that was sent by them but I have not received the “box” that they were sending me. By “box” I assume they mean router?

Question : Can I use my current router (Belkin) so that I can access the internet? If so what settings should I use if any?

You have to extract the user name/password that is flashed into the Sky Router. See Forums, Technical Discussions. Sky contract demands that you use their router, but many users report better results with non-Sky hardware.

correct as the router has your user/pass built in

Re: Do I need to use Skys router??

But I received a letter from Sky with a username and password? Can I not program my current router with this username and password? Or is the built in username and password completely different?

i tried as my first router didnt turn up and they dont know what the user/pass is as its in with the router or thats what they told me anyway

if you have to ring them at all i would ask for the tracking code for your router as my experience and previous threads you will see sometimes the router never turns up

correct as the username/password are written into the firmware....you can extract them once you have the router but not before

If you take the trouble to look through the forum, you will see that dozens, no hundreds, maybe even thousands, have been in this same position. You will also find that there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.
