New to ADSL - is this normal?

I've recently gone for a Sky MAX package - I live about 1.5km from the exchange, and my router is plugged (via filter) into the main socket - there are no extensions or any other equipment attached to the socket (I don't use my BT socket for anything else).

I was told my exchange (Teddington) is enabled, and I should be able to get 'upto' 18Mbps download, however I'm syncing at only 6Mbps - upload is as expected; 768Kbps. It has been connected now for a couple of weeks without the speed fluctuating at all.

Is it normal to have such a big difference between possible/actual performance?

      Here are my router's stats:

/usr/sbin/adslctl: ADSL driver and PHY status
Status: Showtime Channel: INTR, Upstream rate = 768 Kbps, Downstream rate = 6016 Kbps

Re: New to ADSL - is this normal?

who told you 18Mb, the service is only up to 16Mb at full speed!!

Yoru speed of 6Mb is about right for your attenuation (ie distance from exchange).

Sorry - I meant 16Mbps - a typo. That is disappointing. I guess I'm glad I've kept my cable connection too...

have you tried the test socket underneath the master socket as this 'can' improve your sync rate.

Re: New to ADSL - is this normal?

Tried this now, but the attenuation and data rate remain the same. Thanks, though, for the suggestion!
