Question now I've changed from Connect to Max.

I discovered this morning that Sky installed their kit into my local exchange, Headington Oxford over a month ago, they've still been taking 17 per month from me.

Phoned Sky this morning and requested a change from Connect to Max, they said it had been actioned and would be available in 2-4 hours.

7 hours later, I've got home and rebooted my modem, but still have 8Mbps connection speed.

I'm only 1.4km from the exchange and my simple stats are:

      ---------------------------
      Downstream
      speed:8128
      Line attenuation: 25db
      Noise margin: 15.3db

      Upstream
      Speed: 448 kbps
      Line Attenuation: 16.0 db
      Noise Margin: 23.0 db
      ----------------------------
(I have the full stats if needed)

Should I be getting better than this?

Re: Question now I've changed from Connect to Max.

Your upstream rate is only 448, if you were on max connecting on adsl1 or adsl2+ you would have an ustream rate of 764 or 768 so you are not on max yet.

Re: Question now I've changed from Connect to Max.

@indefatigable, from his stats hes on connect , yes ? hes also connecting at the max of 8128 and has a reasonable line attenuation of 25. Why would he benefit from being taken off fastpath ? His stats are virtually identical to mine and when I was taken off fastpath I saw no increase in dl speeds ( i dont think you can get much better than 7000kbps taking into account overheads ) in fact the only " change" i saw was a 100% increase in pings which has ruined my gaming experience and is why I will be leaving sky if they dont alter their stance on this.
I'm not having a go at you, as I think weve talked before and hopefully you maybe able to get this point across.
      cheers

OK, so when the migration to Max is complete, do my attenuation and noise figures look good enough to get substantially better than my current 8Mbit?

without building up your hopes - yes, however the stats you have posted relate to a short period of time, get them again after using the router hard for a few hours and that should reveal if there is anything that needs addressing.

OK, I've run the connection without a reboot for a while, and downloaded a few large files.

Having looked at the guide to interpreting line errors, it looks as if my line is reasonably good.

So, what is my best move to get moved to Max? I phoned Sky as I mentioned in my first post, but no change yet, do I wait a while longer, or use the online facility to request a change.

I guess what I'm really asking, is what I ask *them* for.
