      SKY BB & VOIP/Phones

      A bit of advice.

I have a BT telephone line....

When I go for SKY BB, I am right in saying that

1> I can use my SKY BB and make/recieve a phone call.

2> If I make a call is the call being charged as a BT rate on my home phone line number ?

3> Can I use my BB to VOIP a call over the broadband to save me making calls on my BT phone line.

i)Told I could use IM with a mic on my PC

      thanks

In answer to your questions, Yes to all four.

Your telephone line stays with BT (if your line is currently with them) and will only change if you sign up to a Sky telephone package - like "See, Speak, Surf" for 26 per month.

I use Sky broadband and VoIP using a company called VoIPBuster and a Grandstream ATA486 adapter and it works fine.

      Thanks

Agree with above, except you don't need to take the 26 a month package, I've got Sky Mid @5 a month and the smallest Sky tv package @ 15 a month - total 20 a month, Sky talk which includes free evening and weekend calls is bolted on for free.

all your calls go via Sky - there's no dialing of additional codes - it is all automatic!

      right got it.

      so its a CPS'd service (Carrier Pre-Select)

so if Sky fails, I override with 1470 or whatever it is

      cheers

Sky Talk only affects your outgoing calls.
You don't have to do anything. Just use your phone as before.
Sky Talk has never failed me.
Your line rental and incoming calls are still with BT.
      But moneysavingexpert.com advises that you
"Use a '1280' prefix to 'hop back onto BT' for all 05xx, 080x, 0844, 0871,
00800 (international freephone) and weekday and weekend 0845 calls.

Check out the Sky Talk sub forum on this site in the Other Sky Packages section.
