      Sky Connect Gone Down?

Hi everyone. This is my first post. Got online with Connect a couple of days ago and trying to get used to the thing. Anyway, so far so good, then at 9PM tonight, everything stopped, the connection with Sky that is. I've got line sync and a steady Show Time light, but it can't connect with the Sky server.

Is Sky Connect down or is it me? I've rebooted pc and modem but it's dead.
Sorry if this is boring anyone, but you should try it on dialup!

Thanks for any advice or comments.

      JaX

Your internet light is on yes?

Intermittent Connection or is this the first time it has went down, did it seem to run OK and gradually get slower and slower then cut off?

Are u wireless or wired, tell me what way you have the physical setup,Are you using an extension cable? are connected into master socket with filter and filters on ALL telephone sockets you are using etc, where do you have your Sky tv plugged into?

Can you access the router settings page, * type into your address bar on your browser 192.168.0.1 then press enter and login with username admin and password sky, do you have an ip address listed where it says ADSL port?

Have you checked if your exchange is down?

yes it was down for 2 1/2 hours, I lost access at 9 and regained it at 11:25.

I made a brief call into tech and they confirmed it was a connect outage

      Re: Sky Connect Gone Down?

Sky Connect did go down in serveral areas over the past few days. This was at no fault of Sky Broadband yet was BT Openreach's fault.

By the end of 2007 Sky Broadband will replace Connect in 77% of the exchanges currently being used.

But you will all have to understand that Sky Broadband is still a baby just over a year old with over 500,000 customers.

      Bare with it guys!

      Re: Sky Connect Gone Down?

I have also been having problems with Sky Connect, since wednesday morning. It's been painfully slow (I'd say worse than dial up!) and last night (Friday) went off completely (around 9pm) and also went off about 20 minutes ago. It's still extremely slow at the minute.

I've been on the Sky Connect service for about a month now and up until now (Wednesday) it's been really fast connecting at up to 7.8mbps!

I just hope it picks up, otherwise I'll have to ring Sky about it and I hate ringing them as they take ages to answer!

      Re: Sky Connect Gone Down?

Yes, mine's back too. Came alive again at 11.30pm last night, which fits everyone elses timings.
So far, I'm a bit disappointed with Connect. I'm getting just under 3mbps which is 50% faster than my previous deal (ill-fated V21/Biscit if anyone's familiar with that fiasco), but the browsing is nowhere near as crisp. I usually run some torrents in the background and Connect really doesn't like it. I usually have to turn them off to get anything like the browser speed I enjoyedwith V21 at less than 2mbps. Some sites simply won't connect if bit torrents are running. Why is that?
      Cheers, JaX

I rang the 08705 515 515 number last night to see if the servers were down, but they'd fixed the 'press 1', 'press 2' step to loop back to the welcome message. Very frustrating. Do Sky only work 'office hours'?

I believe on Connect the traffic is shaped, to the detriment of P2P and other bandwidth guzzlers. Most ISPs are realizing that you can't give cheap unlimited bandwidth and survive. This is one, but not the only, reason that V21 went down the drain. In your case if you are downloading then you must be uploading, which will have a detrimental effect on your speed. A bandwidth monitor may give you an idea where your bandwidth is going.
