When you are up and running with Sky you will need to contact AOL to close your account down, if you don't they will probably continue to charge you. Depending on your billing date you might find you will have to pay a small fee or they might owe you a few quid.

I'm just abit worried that the switch never happens tomorrow as expected. The guy who switched from AOL to Sky who still hasn't switched because of some mess up is one example.

For every mess up there is one or more that goes smoothly. I migrated on time, although Sky had failed to tell me the date, I only knew via the BT order tracker page.

Re: Activation date tomorrow, do I need to inform AOL?

Well I'm the one with a mess up but its not AOL fault... it was something to do with Sky sending a cancel order at same time as the order to transfer me, because my sky TV got cancelled.
That was ****** as I have never stopped watching it and I am still waiting to be turned off then I have got to re-order the line to be enabled again.

But I would advise you to call AOL when you know you are activated and tell them you want to cancel.

I had argument with them as they said I was transfered to cheaper 9.99 package and therefore on a new 12 month contract.

After 20 or 30 mins or heated talking I convinced them that I really was on Sky Broadband... they did not belive me as you can still access your AOL account and that they could do what they want as I cancelled my card so they could not take any money out of my account.

Eventually i got a job number or something I had to write down as proof I was cancelled.

You need that number so make sure that you get it, its your proof in case later on they do try and claim money off you that you told them and have confirmation...

If I am not turned off later today I will read again to see how you got on..

I was supposed to be off on the 18th but late night i was told off Sky it may take up to 3 extra days...

Re: Activation date tomorrow, do I need to inform AOL?

Well I migrated from Tiscali on the 30th march. Tiscali actually stated that when the MAC code is used they will cancel the account. However yesterday I received an invoice from tiscali for the period 01/04/07 to the 30/04/07. I have cancelled my direct debit so they won't get any money. I contacted Tiscali and they said my account was still active (even thoug I have not been able to get braodband with them since 30/03/07). Anyhow am having to send them my sky letter stating when i was migrated so they can cancel the account

Wiould deffo cancel your direct debit if you have one though as they will try and take money out.

Re: Activation date tomorrow, do I need to inform AOL?

I had the same problem with BT after I migrated to Sky and my account with them was not closed. It took various emails but in the end both my account was closed and they finally sent me a cheque for a few that they owed me.

Can you not do this via phone or even email ?

I'm just on the phone to AOL now, to cancel my account.
