Yeah, I think I pretty much live in the exchange. Also, my local area is zone 2 London with mostly new build houses so I suspect quality of cabling is pretty good.

I wouldn't be too envious, most of what you do is limited by how busy the remote server is anyway. Most sites cant serve at 15Mb in my experience!

Having said that, I had a 2.5MB upstream with my last ISP. That did seem to make browsing faster.

Anyway, thats all in the past now. Now to see how stable my connection is!

Re: How long for welcome pack to arrive?

Its all a bit of a lottery with regard to cable length and quality.

I used to live in a flat by the river in Vauxhall. I could see the exchange less than 200m away from me. Only problem was, it was on the other side of the river so the cables had to go round and over the bridge. I had awful attenuation partially because of that and also partially because the quality of cabling in the 1960s block I lived in was awful.

It was galling to be within 200m of the exchange but to be barely able to muster 1mb!

Re: How long for welcome pack to arrive?

From anecdotal evidence, I would say they usually err on the side of caution. I was told 8MB was my max but I get 15.5MB. Extreme example but they dont want to get your hopes up.
