      Torrents knock out web etc

If I open a torrent (in utorrent) and begin downloading, I can no longer get to any web pages.. every page fails..same with live messenger messages all rejected. I have to close utorrent and then wait 5 - 10 mins before normal service resumes. Was fine with my last ISP so im guessing that its sky bb related? are they trying to stop torrent downloads?

Don't quote me but I'm sure I read on this forum somewhere that if you run Torrents flat out it upsets the router can cause reboots etc, the fix is to back off the torrents speed a bit. If you search the forum for "Torrents" you will probably find others talking about same issues.

Try limiting the upload speed to about a third of your maximum

So if you upload is 60, put a limit of 20

utorrent mate... ive been using it for donkeys and never had a problem, unless its a specific issue between it and skyBB.. but yea i guess its worth a try using something else.

Re: Torrents knock out web etc

2 thing to do here, 1 was already suggested by lrostoke as limiting your uploads. The 2nd thing is to use a program cFosSpeed, faster Internet access with Traffic Shaping for €9 that will manage your traffic for you. I can upload at a constant 80k-85k and my web pages are still fast and nippy. It does take a few days to calibrate fully though.
