      LCP down issue

Hi. I got my Sky broadband on Friday 30th March. All was fine and then yesterday I started to get connection drops at random intervals. Sometimes after 5 mins then sometimes after 1 hour. The connection status says 'LCP Down'

I have tried a new microfilter and same issue. I also have Unhp switched off.
My noise levels are always around 12. (Never seen anything lower)

Any ideas what this 'LCP Down' error can be.

      Re: LCP down issue

You have the same problem I have, I have had it since my connection date dated the 21st Feb 2007!

I have posted about it on here, have had BT out and nothing sorted!

Even teir 3 don't have a clue as to the cause they simply put it down to the line. It got worse for me, after my first month my dropouts started to last for anything up to 2 - 4 hours!

They have now capped my speed but it still happens but it does seem to re-sync straight away now as I have not noticed any long term loss, all they said to me was to call them back friday if it still happens and my only option is to have the BB removed from my line!

Just to add my current Noise Margin is 20.8 db

LCP Down is to do with the PPP protocol used, it is def a prob at sky's end and I don't hold much hope for you! I for one will be calling back on friday to get this crap service removed from my line without penalty!

      Re: LCP down issue

Ive got the exact same problem! and noone at SKY has a clue.
Ive been connected since September, but it was fine for months until they capped my connection to 10Mb by accident, when they uncapped it I started getting problems

only thing I can suggest is make sure UPNP is off, and run mognuts utility to get detailed stats of your connection.

      Re: LCP down issue

Hi, i have been a customer of sky and their broadband service for nearly 2 years now, having moved then from the now Virgin "NTL"

Well i have never recieved any problems at all with my internet connection up until 2 days ago and yes it was the ever so annoying "LCP down" issue.

Well after numerous phone calls 2 microfilters later a hoover and brush of the main socket face plate i am still encountering the problem.

I have pushed the pen in the back opf the router, turned of my uPnP changed my MTU to 1400 and it is still giving me jip usually goes off every hour and then sometimes a bit more, and i'm fed up of phoning to be honest the same call the same suggestions,i even told someone of TIER 2 it was because of the LCP error and he said, to quote "never heard of that before" Christ!!!

So any help or advice would be appreciated

Oh and here is a pic of what i have when i'm connected.

      Re: LCP down issue

You should change your MTU back to 1500, which is the default for Sky.
Did you look at the Link in Post~4. You have problems with your line, ask Sky to have it checked.

i even told someone of TIER 2 it was because of the LCP error and he said, to quote "never heard of that before"
There is no Tier 2 now, but I am surprised that the agent you spoke to had never heard of the Link Control Protocol, if you were speaking to CST, who replaced T2 & 3. Probably someone recently promoted from Tier 1.
