      I don't know enough to tell you what an acceptable level of errors are, but, for instance:

      In this 15 min interval your Errored Seconds totalled: 900 seconds so, 900/60 to get minutes = 15 mins or 100% errored seconds.
      Your Cyclic Redundancy Check showed 55376 incomplete packets sent out of a total of 55591, so, (55376/55591) x 100 = 99.61% errored packets

      These packets will then have to be re-sent and re-sent until the CRC confirms that they are complete. This is what is slowing your connection down. Above a certain level of errors your speed will just get slower and slower. When you reboot you start from the begining again with a fresh load of data, until the errors build up again, normally under heavy use where the errors have no time to clear and packets are essentially just piling up on one another.

      This is how I understand it. But, then again, I could be talking a load of bull. I'm sure someone will put me right if I am

      Re: Normal to get erratic download rates?

      I am told by Saturday who seems to be the resident expert on this site and kindly sorted my problems out for me! that a very rough rule of thumb is that CRC errors should not exceed 0.1% of the SF "superframes" transmitted.

      Previous 15 minutes time = 15 min 0 sec
      SF = 55591
      CRC = 55376
      LOS = 0
      LOF = 0
      ES = 900

      So during your 15 minute period 55 crc errors would have been expectable.

      can CRC errors occur via normal network traffic? PC to PC connected via the router.

      Yes they do look better, just within tolerance. Is your connection better?

      Re: Normal to get erratic download rates?

      It is good yeah. I never altered anythin for those results though. Same phone socket as before. Thats what made me think can normal network traffic give crc errors as i transfer big files from laptop to pc wirelessly.

      Re: Normal to get erratic download rates?

      Weird! I am no expert still learning unfortunately but as I understand it CRC errors are errors on the telephone line between you and the exchange, so I dont see how internal traffic between machines should effect it. But stats posted earlier were pretty awful so it seems like something has changed.

      Re: Normal to get erratic download rates?

      Was getting alot of crc errors again so had the modem in the test socket all day and still i get errors.

      Previous 15 minutes time = 15 min 0 sec
      SF = 55590
      CRC = 55374
      LOS = 0
      LOF = 0
      ES = 900

      So i take it my internal wiring is fine and there is a fault from the exchange to the house? I take it theres nothing i can do about that and to just keep rebooting the modem?

      Re: Normal to get erratic download rates?

      If by test socket you mean the one behind the face plate and by pulling the face plate off it has killed/disconnected your extensions, then yes looks like you have a problem with the line or some local interference causing some problems.
