      Problems with connection to sky?

      Hi

I have migrated from plus net to sky and activation date was today. I could no longer log onto plus net so I assumed sky was activ. I have connected up router etc however when the router connects to my laptop all I get is aquiring IP address and I cannot connect to anything. I have tried my old router and it says im connected at 8mb (prev on 2mb) so I assume im all up and running.

      Anyone help?

did you by any chance have a static ip in your network card properties on your pc?

If so, and you are on windows xp, go to control panel, network connections, you should have a local area connection icon.

right click on it go to properties, highligh internet protocol then click on properties and put a tick in obtain an ip address automatically.

do the same for dns servers then click on ok - retry connecting your new router and see what happens.

Disclaimer: keep a note of the settings from above in case you need to reverse what i have said

have u followed my instructions, even if just to see what the settings are?

The router normally dishes out an ip via dhcp and for some reson your router aint assigning it to the pc.

If the pc's network properties arent set to recieve the ip automatically it could be that

could be however you should be able to at least connect to the router, that dont have to be connected to sky.

Can you get to the admin screen at all of the router?

doh silly question it dont get an ip addy

have you tried rebooting the laptop with the router connected (the sky one)
