      Thanks NewsreadeR

I will have set my SS to just 5 mins and monitor power down to just 10 mins - after all it is getting late for an old git like me!!!

I'll do as suggested - wait for both SS and monitor power down until I touch PC again and will use my daughter's account.

(BTW - In the meantime, why "newsreader" ??? Just curious)

      Cheers

tbh i dont know, when we first set this site up, we wanted names associated with things to do with Sky, seems as i always watch Sky news, it just seemed to fit really. I may change but i aint sure, if i can think of a name, that aint already taken.

Murdoch would have been a good one, but that taken as well :-(

      Ok, I'm back.....

SS and Monitor power down kicked in.

Move mouse and I get the account selection screen.
Select Daughter's account and everything is fine - internet & router config.
Logged out of her account and clicked back on mine (still logged in)
Everything fine - internet & router config.

      BTW Paul,
If my PC is to blame (which it could very well be), then why have I just started experiencing these sort of probs since switching to Sky? Why didn't my access lock up when I was with Wanadoo? In 2 whole years I witnessed 0 probs with Wanadoo, I moved to Sky for price and speed. The way things are going I'd be more than happy to go back too Wanadoo, but I'm probably locked into a 12 month contract with Sky now - a contract that I would question Sky's ability to honour and support.

sorry Gary i can't remember what sequence of things i did to resolve this, i know i definitely did an adaware scan, full antivirus scan using nod32 and then i think i reset the dns cache but i truly cant remember if that was all it took to sort it.

I would also turn off The screen saver, no need of it with today's monitors
That can cause all kinds of problems with running software..

OMG - I am now being advised to turn off my screensaver (after having been told to turn off my firewall).

I've got it......Just turn off my PC and dont turn it on again. That way I wont get any more problems

Seriously though, I shall continue experimenting tonight. I saw there is an option on the screensaver config which looks like it could stop the SS returning you to the Welcome/Account Selection screen, instead maybe it will take me straight back to my Windows desktop.
I guess that Lawman is right and that I dont necessarily need my SS activated. Maybe I can get way with just using the screen powerdown option.

Anyone else had the SS/disconnect problem and can remember the fix?

      Cheers
      Gary

Try switching OFF "Fast user switching"

Control Panel/User Accounts/Change the way users log on or off

This has been known to cause all soughts of problems.

      UPDATE.....

Tonight I turned PC on, checked connection to web and router config - All OK.
      Disabled screensaver and monitor powersave.
Left PC idle for 20 minutes.
Came back - cannot access internet or router config.

Tried logoff account, logon another account, logoff, logon main account, reboot reouter. None worked. Had to reboot both router and PC to get back online.

I am having problems like this 2 and i can't see whats causing it. I turn on my pc then i am connected, go thorugh some sites, log into router, log out.... go back to check my stats, then can't log in, refresh web pages and cannot get logged into router.

Have to disconnect and re-connect and then it is ok for a bit and then from there it happens again

      my stats are the following

      ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11998 kbps 766 kbps
Line Attenuation 29.0 db 14.2 db
Noise Margin 10.9 db 12.3 db

I am using Zone Alarm and i have powered down to minimum, turned off pc, turned off router and left for 15 mins then turned on router and turned on pc and then same things have happened!

A;sp tried master socket and was the same!

      Any ideas
